Austrian conductor and musicologist. In 1938 he emigrated to Switzerland, in 1939 via Poland on the ship "Pulawski" to Argentina, arriving there on March 14, 1939; from 1950 he lived in Uruguay, and since the 1970s in Switzerland. Pahlen commuted between Europe and Latin America until the end of his life.
