Pragya Kaul Guido received her PhD in history from the University of Michigan in 2026. In her dissertation, she explored how imperial states managed refugees as they crossed the fluid borders of empires. By centering the experiences of Jewish refugees in British India, she examined how European, Indian, and British conceptions of race and class shaped refugee movements within societies marked by rigid, racialized hierarchies. For her work, Pragya Kaul has been awarded grants from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and the German Historical Institute. She is a Council Member (At Large) for the American Historical Association.
