The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) is a racist and violent secret society with Protestant-nationalist roots that is primarily active in the southern states of the USA. The Klan existed as a unified organization from 1865 to 1871 and from 1915 to 1944. Since 1950, several independent groups have existed under this name.
