Catholic party and party of political Catholicism in the heavily Protestant-dominated German Reich. Between 1917 and 1932, the Center Party had four terms as Reich Chancellor. It dissolved itself on July 5, 1933. It was re-established in 1945, but was unable to assert itself against the interdenominational CDU.
