Albrecht Weinberg

Albrecht Weinberg was born in 1925 in Rhauderfehn, East Frisia. In the spring of 1939, he arrived in Groß-Breesen, along with his sister Friedel, who was one year older than him. In the summer of 1941, both were forcibly transferred from Groß-Breesen to a forestry camp southeast of Berlin. In early April 1943, they were deported from Berlin to Auschwitz. Weinberg survived Auschwitz, Mittelbau-Dora, and several death marches, and survived the liberation of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp on April 15, 1945. Together with Friedel, whom he met again in Hanover in the summer of 1945, Albrecht Weinberg emigrated to the USA in 1947 and managed a butcher shop on Broadway in New York City for over twenty years. Since 2012, Albrecht Weinberg has lived in Leer, East Frisia.
