The Bauhaus was an art school founded in Weimar in 1919 by Walter Gropius. It was created through the merger of the Grand Ducal Saxon Academy of Fine Arts in Weimar with the Grand Ducal Saxon School of Applied Arts in Weimar, which had been founded by Henry van de Velde in 1907. In 1925, the school moved to Dessau.
